The Lynn Welden Project
I have been working on creating an interactive website using the diary of a young man’s last year of life in Wetumpka, Alabama, 1930. He was confined to a wheelchair following a spinal cord injury in his teens and died a few years later. Yet he led a rich, productive, and meaningful lifeĀ  focused on his community and service to others. The diary he kept during his last year is an amazing testament to a strong and beautiful spirit.

The man was my father-in-law’s younger brother, and this project is a gift to the Welden family, as well as what I hope will become a teaching tool about life in small-town Alabama in 1930 for Alabama history classroom students.

I have set up the site as a blog, using the daily diary entries as blog posts. Am in the process of locating audio clips and other research materials about events and objects mentioned in the entries to create slices of life in 1930. Going for a “you are there” effect.
