Here is where I try to get back on track. Meetup with other women enterpreneurs yesterday helping my resolve a LOT.
I have dumped the whole web/tech help part of my business, except for the two non-profits close to my heart, in order to focus on my real and lifelong passions– writing and history. Research, interviews, hours in basement archives and online, piecing together pictures of people’s lives and times long gone. The adrenalin rush of discovery when stumbling upon a detail that becomes one of those aha! pieces of the puzzle. Loving that I never know what I will find when looking for something else.
“History is the witness that testifies to the passing of time; it illumines reality, vitalizes memory, provides guidance in daily life and brings us tidings of antiquity.”
Cicero, Pro Publio Sestio
Roman author, orator, & politician (106 BC – 43 BC)
Now have WordCamp and Tammy Hart’s WordPress classes under my belt, plus an eventful Alabama Media Professionals Workshop getting fellow freelancers up to speed on the wonderful world of social media and actiing like the actual businesses we are. Highly recommend Tammy Hart’s WordChalk. Will be taking her CMS class on the 24th. http://wordchalk.com/
Things are cooking in my world. Next to find the time to bake and serve. Working on RUSH Initiative Causes page, Fresh Air Family redux, and trying to be more prolific with blogs. So much stuff in my head, so little time!
I went into this conference with no expectations other than picking up some info on using social media, and was totally blown away by the caliber of the presenters, sessions, attendees, organization, etc. (The website could have used some first-aid, though- but I don’t have the whole behind the scenes picture either). I took away so much valuable info, plus an enthusiasm for building up my business, which had really needed a shot in the arm. I am now signed up for Tammy Hart’s WordPress workshop Saturday, because I don’t want to wait until WordCamp in September to get help with setting up my project. http://www.tammyhartdesigns.com/
Looking forward to Social South media conference tomorrow. Absolutely no idea what to expect.
